Arena Consulting
Simulation is Hard.We Can Help.
SimWell helps operations teams build, validate, and scale Arena models that support planning decisions across manufacturing, supply chain, healthcare, mining, and oil & gas.
Why SimWell for Arena
Arena rewards modelers who understand both the platform and the operation. The flowchart looks intuitive, but production-grade Arena work depends on logic structure, validation discipline, and integration patterns that hold up when planners and executives put weight on the answer. SimWell brings that depth.
Where SimWell goes beyond a working model
- Model architectures built for maintainability across multiple planning cycles
- Validation against operational data your team already trusts
- Integration patterns that connect Arena to your ERP exports, planning sheets, and dashboards
- Scenario libraries your planning team can run without outside help
- Training and documentation that reduce long-term dependency on outside expertise
"Arena makes bottlenecks visible long before they show up on the floor."
Anna Kampaus Director of Simulation, SimWellWhy Arena
Most simulation platforms force modelers to abstract operations into code. Arena keeps the logic visual. Flowchart-based modeling maps the if-then rules that drive operational flow, which keeps the model legible to the people who own the work. The decision conversation stays grounded in operational reality.
Flowchart-Based DES
The model builds from process blocks that mirror how the operation actually runs. Workflows, decision points, and resource interactions stay visible to stakeholders, which shortens validation cycles and keeps internal teams in the conversation.
Stochastic Variability
Arena handles the variability that breaks deterministic plans. Cycle time distributions, demand patterns, equipment failures, and resource availability enter the model the way they show up in production data.
Resource & Queue Logic
Arena models resource contention, queue formation, and multi-stage flow with the precision throughput decisions require. Bottlenecks surface inside the model before they surface on the schedule.
Animation & Dashboards
2D and 3D animation runs the model in a form stakeholders can interpret without modeling training. Dashboards track utilization, throughput, cycle time, and queue depth across scenario runs.
Rockwell Automation
Arena runs on Rockwell's platform, with enterprise stability, ongoing development, and integration paths into industrial automation systems.
Desktop Deployment
Models run on desktop with full control over data, logic, and scenario libraries inside your environment.
Scenario Templates
Arena supports fast experiment design across throughput, staffing, layout, and capacity scenarios.
How we work together
Every SimWell engagement delivers something usable early and builds from there. Four entry points, depending on where your team is starting.
You have a decision problem and want to validate whether Arena fits and SimWell is the right partner before committing to a full build.
Your team has Arena licenses and wants to build internal capability with structured guidance from working modelers.
You want to build internal capability and ship a working model on the same engagement.
You need a full decision tool, scenario library, or ongoing planning capability scoped to your environment.
Arena Resources from SimWell

Load & Haul Optimization
A western Canadian gas distributor needed to size its tractor and trailer fleet for a North Dakota service network where supply points and customers shifted continuously with drilling activity. Arena modeled the moving network with coordinate-grid routing, weather variability, and custom dispatching logic, sizing the fleet to hold 100% service at minimum cost.
Flow Process Template
You will get the zipped model file, which was built by our simulation experts. It can be executed or modified using the free evaluation version of the Arena Simulation software.
Technical depth
Integration patterns, modeling detail, and deployment considerations for supply chain analysts, internal modelers, and IT stakeholders.
Data Integration
Connect Arena to SQL Server, Oracle, and other relational databases. Pull from ERP exports, MES extracts, WMS data, and scheduling systems. Arena reads Excel and CSV inputs for rapid scenario cycles where live connections are not required. SimWell builds the refresh scripts and macros that keep the model aligned with current demand, resources, and operating conditions across planning cycles.
Custom Logic & VBA
VBA and Arena's expression layer handle proprietary logic, edge cases, and specialized routing rules. SimWell manages the custom logic in most client engagements and covers the essentials in training programs for teams handling their own model maintenance. Most Arena modeling work does not require coding expertise from your team.
Animation and Visualization
Arena's 2D and 3D animation renders model behavior in a form planners, operators, and executives can interpret without modeling training. Dashboards track throughput, utilization, queue depth, and cycle time across runs. Animation supports validation by giving operations teams a visual check against how the work actually flows.
Validation and Calibration
SimWell uses operational data your team already trusts as the calibration baseline. Validation surfaces include throughput, cycle time, utilization, and resource consumption against historical performance. Edge cases get explicit treatment rather than smoothed assumptions. Model behavior traces back to the underlying logic when stakeholders question results.
Questions buyers ask before they engage
Will my team need to learn VBA or coding to work with SimWell?
No. SimWell handles the VBA layer in most client engagements. If your team plans to maintain models internally, our training programs cover the expression logic and macro essentials your modelers will actually use. Most Arena modeling work does not require coding expertise.
What if we're not sure Arena is the right tool for our problem?
Start with a Discovery Workshop. SimWell defines the decision, assesses the modeling requirements, and recommends the right tool and approach before any build begins. Roughly half our discovery engagements end with a different tool recommendation than the buyer arrived with.
Can SimWell work alongside our internal modelers?
Yes. The Coach the Modeler engagement supports teams who build models in-house and want expert review at key points. Custom Projects often run as embedded engagements where SimWell modelers work alongside internal teams across multiple decision cycles.
What do you need from us to get started?
A clear decision owner, a working description of the problem, and access to enough data to validate the model approach. SimWell's discovery process tightens the decision definition and identifies data gaps before the build begins, so a polished problem statement is not a prerequisite.
Do you support multi-site or enterprise rollouts?
Yes. SimWell scales Arena engagements from single-decision projects to multi-site capability builds. Several long-term engagements run across plants, regions, and divisions, with model architectures designed for rollout and reuse from the first build.
